These coatings and paints are professionally designed to make the shelter properties last longer, perform better and look better.
Chemists have also discovered thermochemical compounds that have protected rooftops by helping the structures to stay at the right temperatures. By producing such thermochemical compounds, chemists have managed to reduce energy costs and created more cozy shelters which are used in business headquarters and private residences.
Clothing
The study of chemistry has helped in the creation of fabrics that have stain-resistant properties which come out of the dryer without any traces of creases or wrinkles. These fabrics have helped society by not only preserving the environment but also reducing the cost of dry cleaning and other energy-wasting cleaning methods. Today, fabrics are made for specific purposes, such as business wear, rugged outdoor use, etc. These fabrics are chosen based on their special chemical properties. Stain-resistant fabrics have a coating that has the following features:
- They allow liquids such as the red wine, tea or coffee to roll off the surface
- They are easy to clean
Medicine
Through the understanding of chemistry, chemists have harnessed the knowledge of how supplements, drugs, and vitamin can be of help and harm to our bodies. E.g., the discovery of penicillin has helped in reduction of deaths caused by bacterial infections. The primary importance of chemistry in a society mostly lies in the development and testing of new medicines and medical treatments.
Cleaning
Part of chemistry explains how cleaning works. Through chemistry, chemists have helped develop various specific cleaners which are best in cleaning the dishes, home floor, laundry and even ourselves. All of us use chemistry in one way or the other when using disinfectants, bleaches, soaps, and water. The knowledge behind how these cleaning agents work is chemistry.
Environmental Issues
Chemistry is a core science in environmental issues. It differentiates what makes one chemical a pollutant and the other a nutrient. It also gives us the idea about how to clean our environment and the processes that are suitable for industries to use without harming our environment.
Cooking
Chemistry explains how food changes as we cook it, how to preserve it, why and how it rots, how food ingredients are useful to the body and all importantly, how our bodies utilize the food we eat.
